The state of Arizona is noted for its desert weather, exceptionally hot summertimes, and mild winters, but it also features mountain ranges and pine forests within the northern high country, with much cooler climate as opposed to the lower deserts.

At one point Arizona State was the largest producer of cotton in the country. Copper is still extensively mined from numerous expansive open-pit and underground mines, responsible for two-thirds of the nation's output.

The state government is Arizona's largest employer, while Wal-Mart is the state's leading private business, with 17,343 staff in 2008. As of the month of June 2010, the state's unemployment rate is 9.6%.

Nearly 70% of the land within Arizona State is owned by the U.S. government, which rents a part of the public domain to ranchers or miners.
