The northern region of the state is dominated by the Blue Ridge Mountains, that are part of the Appalachian Mountains system. Within the southern parts of the state are the continental coastal plains. Florida State lies to the south. The Atlantic Ocean and South Carolina State lie to the east, and the state of Alabama to the west. Tennessee and North Carolina lie to the north.
The production of food is significant to Georgia's economy. Within southwest Georgia, within the area of Albany is the core of pecan production. In fact, the state of Georgia is the number one producer of pecans in the globe. In northeast Georgia, Gainesville is a center of poultry production. Other state products consist of soybeans, peanuts, corn, peaches, cattle, rye, dairy products, hogs, turfgrass, vegetables and tobacco.
The state has a very diverse industrial base. The mineral and timber trade have a lot of operations here. In Decatur County, the town of Attapulgus produces a clay material called palygorskite. It is better known as attapulgite, and offers cosmetic, medical and industrial uses. various industries include textiles and apparel, electric equipment, transportation equipment, chemical products, paper products, cigarettes and food processing. Moreover, tourism in Georgia is strong.
The capital city is Atlanta. The city has seen growth over the last few decades in communications, real estate and service businesses. Atlanta has a large population base and is really near major transportation routes. Atlanta City is a leading center of industry, transportation, government, tourism and communications, not only within Georgia State but in the southeastern United States. Businesses within the city of Atlanta consist of automobile and aircraft manufacturing, food and chemical processing, printing and publishing. Many huge businesses are headquartered within the Atlanta area, such as Delta Air Lines, Cox Enterprise Arby's, Newell Rubbermaid, Chick-fil-A, The Coca-Cola Company, Georgia-Pacific, The Home Depot, Hooters, ING Americas, Waffle House, United parcel Service, Primerica Financial Services and NCR Corporation.
