 Forklift Attachments Elizabeth - Elizabeth, New Jersey is situated in the states Union County. At present, the city has a population approaching 125,000 people, based on the newest 2010 census. By population numbers, it is the 4th biggest city within New Jersey. From the 2000 Census population of roughly 120,600 there was an increase of 4,401 inhabitants or roughly 3.7% by the year 2010.
The city of Elizabeth was named amongst the "50 Greenest Cities in the USA" in 2008 by Popular Science magazine. It was the only New Jersey city to be chosen.
When the township was originally inhabited in the year 1664 by its English settlers, the community was officially referred to as Elizabethtown. The name was selected to honor the wife of noted colonial proprietor, Sir George Carteret. Elizabeth was the very first capital of New Jersey. The name officially changed to become the city of Elizabeth in the year 1855 upon its incorporation.
The first major business within the area to support thousands of jobs was the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Ever since WWII, the city of Elizabeth has seen substantial growth in its transportation facilities. The Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal, normally called Port Elizabeth, has become the main container ship facility serving the northeastern quadrant of North America. Also, it is one of the world's busiest ports.
There are more than a dozen landmarks and historical sites in Midtown Elizabeth. In recent years, the Elizabeth Public Library has gone through major upgrades. This elegant building was a gift from Andrew Carnegie in the beginning of the 20th century. Boxwood Hall is another historic site. This was the former house of the youngest person to sign the Constitution, Jonathan Dayton as well as the home of Elias Boudinot, President of the Continental Congress. One of the biggest and oldest operating theatres in the state is the historic Ritz Theatre. This fantastic building dates back to the year 1926 and has a lot of history attached.
The former residence of Royal Governor Jonathan Belcher is close by and is referred to as the Belcher Ogden Mansion. It is the last remaining original Royal Governor's mansion in the United States. There are a lot of annual festivals and parades which celebrate the ethnic diversity of the city of Elizabeth. For instance, the Elizabeth Latin Carnival takes place at the beginning of September on an annual basis and brings hundreds of thousands of tourists. Other famous events consist of Portugal day, the Pride day in the Port, Unity Day and Julyfest. The annual Tour De Elizabeth is held every Sunday prior to Memorial Day and it is a bike tour of the whole city.
Part of the city of Elizabeth extends into the really busy Newark Liberty International Airport. The city also features the famous Jersey Gardens outlet mall, Little Jimmy's Italian Ices since the year 1932, Loews Theatre and the Elizabeth Center. All of these ventures bring millions in profits each year.
The Bayway Refinery makes its home within Linden and Elizabeth. This is a ConocoPhillips refining facility that produces approximately 230,000 barrels or 37,000m3 each and every day, supplying petroleum based products to the New Jersey/New York areas.
