Forklift Attachments Yakima

Forklift Attachments Yakima - Yakima is a city in the state of Washington, United States. Nearby is Snoqualmie National Forest and Mount Ranier National Park. Yakima serves as the county seat of Yakima County. The city has a population of about 91,200, making it the 8th most populous city in the state of Washington. The metropolitan area has a population of about 243,200.

The unincorporated suburban areas of Terrace Heights and West Valley are all located within the Yakima Valley and are considered part of Greater Yakima. The valley is a fertile area which can produce among the best apples in the world. The valley is a major wine- and hops-producing region. Around 75 percent of all hops grown in the U.S. are grown all over the city of Yakima.

Southeast and south of Yakima lies the Yakama Indian Reservation. The Yakama people originally settled the valley. Explorers Clark and Lewis arrived within the region in 1805. Their reports of abundant wildlife and fertile soil encouraged homesteaders to reside here. During 1847, a Catholic Mission was constructed in southwest of the existing site of Yakima. Conflicts between the Yakama people and the settlers escalated into the Yakama Indian War of the year 1855. In response, the U.S. Army established a fort in 1856 near present-day White Swan. The Army defeated the Yakamas and the Yakama Indian Reservation was created.

Agriculture has traditionally been the economic foundation of Yakima City. Abundant fruit crops, like for instance pears, peaches, apples, melons and cherries, are grown in the valley. Vegetables, like peppers, corn and beans, grow well here. Numerous workers who came to process, market and pick the valley's agricultural produce stayed to become residents. Agricultural support services and agriculture provide a considerable number of jobs.

Downtown Yakima has changed significantly ever since the late 1990s. The retail core of the area has shifted from downtown Yakima to Union Gap, a city that lies to the south of Yakima within Yakima County. The city's department stores and a shopping mall have been replaced with call-centers and several hotels. Union Gap is where individuals go to shop now, in large big-box stores. The city plans to rejuvenate its downtown area with places for entertainment, and a more personal type of shopping experience.
