 Forklift Attachments Santa Fe - Santa Fe, serves as the states capital city, the county seat of Santa Fe County and is the states fourth biggest city. The name Santa Fe translates literally in Spanish to mean "holy faith." The city's complete name when it was established was "The Royal Town of the Holy Faith of St. Francis of Assisi" or "La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asis."
During 2010, the census reported that the population of Santa Fe was 67,947. The city constitutes the main city of the Santa Fe, New Mexico Metropolitan Statistical Area. This region accounts for all of Santa Fe County and is also part of the bigger Santa Fe-Espanola Combined Statistical Area.
Originally, Santa Fe was occupied between 1050 and 1150 by various Pueblo Indian villages. Sometime after 900 C.E. one of the earliest known settlements within what is currently downtown Santa Fe was established. A Native American group fashioned a cluster of homes which spread for half a mile to the west and to the south. The village was called Ogapoge and the homes were centered on the site of the present Plaza. The Santa Fe River attracted inhabitants because it provided water to those who were residing there.
Until the 1700s, the Santa Fe River was a year round stream, today; it is considered a seasonal waterway. In 2007, according to the conservation group referred to as American Rivers, the Santa Fe River was recognized as the most endangered river within the United States.
During the year 1943, the township of Santa Fe served as the gateway to LANL or also known as Los Alamos National Laboratory, which is a 45 minute drive from the city and ever since then, Santa Fe has been associated with technology and science. The Santa Fe Institute or SFI was established during 1984 in order to research complex systems within biological, physical, and economic and political sciences. Santa Fe hosts such Nobel laureates as Kenneth Arrow for economics and Philip Warren Anderson and Murray Gell-Mann, both for physics. During the year 1994, the NCGR or National Center for Genome Resources was founded to be able to concentrate on research with bioscience, mathematics and bioscience.
In the City of Santa Fe, several of the key economic factors consist of tourism and government. Each year, Santa Fe draws a lot of visitors who visit for the year-round weather conditions and the numerous outdoor activities. There are numerous sites to enjoy hiking and lots of skiing throughout the years of enough snowfall. The City of Santa Fe is also home to numerous cultural activities. The visitor bureau and the chamber of commerce both offer tourist information.
The Plaza and the historic downtown sites are predominantly where most of the tourist activity takes place. The Plaza consists of a one block square which is adjacent to the Palace of the Governors. This is the original seat of New Mexico's territorial government since the time of the Spanish colonization. The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market happens each and every year during the second full weekend of July at an attraction area called "Museum Hill," that is the site of many art museums in Santa Fe. Another popular attraction area for both locals and tourists alike is the Canyon Road Arts region. It is home to various galleries.
