 Forklift Attachments Albuquerque - In New Mexico State, Albuquerque is the biggest city, situated within the central part of the state. Albuquerque straddles the Rio Grande and is the county seat of Bernalillo County. Based on the 2010 Census, the population was 545,852, ranking it the 32nd largest city within the US. The city was the 6th fastest growing within the US as of the month of June 2007. The metropolitan population in 2011 reached about 907,800 making it the 57th biggest US metropolitan area. Rio Rancho City is included within the Albuquerque MSA population.
Situated in the city of Albuquerque is the University of New Mexico or UNM and several other popular institutions like for instance the Petroglyph National Monument, the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute and the Kirtland Air Force Base. Sandia National Laboratories are also based within the city as well. The Rio Grande River flows through the city of Albuquerque from north to south and the Sandia Mountains exist along the eastern part of the city.
The city was established during the year 1706 as a Spanish colonial outpost and was known as Ranchos de Albuquerque. During that very first year, there were 18 families residing within the area. There is an abundance of the historical Spanish cultural tradition in the city of Albuquerque today.
At first, the region was a farming village along the Camino Real. As time went by, it also became home to a strategically situated military outpost. The city of Albuquerque was also the sheep-herding capital of the West. In the year 1706, Spain established a military garrison or a "presidio" within the village. Mexico likewise had a military garrison situated there after 1821. The town was initially constructed in the traditional pattern of a Spanish village: houses, government buildings and a church all surrounded a central plaza.
At present, the city of Albuquerque is located at the center of the New Mexico Technology Corridor. This is a group of government institutions and high-tech private companies which run along the Rio Grande. There are some big employers which contribute to the population with their numerous employees like Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories.
A lot of highly skilled personnel are brought into this somewhat isolated area by the attendant contracting companies. Like for example, in suburban Rio Rancho, Intel operates a large semi-conductor factory, likewise referred to as a "fab," and its attendant huge capital investment is found within nearby Sandoval County. During the late 1960s, the solar energy guru and architectural design innovator Steve Baer located his business Zomeworks to the region. The Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Sandia Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory cooperate here in a venture that started with the Manhattan Project.
Tempur-Pedic opened up an 800,000 square foot mattress factory in the month of January 2007. This factory is located within northwest Albuquerque. During the year 2008, Schott Solar Inc. announced they would open up a 200,000 square foot facility that specializes in manufacturing receivers for CSPs or also referred to as concentrated solar thermal power plants, along with 64MW of photovoltaic or also known as PV modules.
The University of New Mexico calls Albuquerque City home. This is the largest public flagship university in the entire state. UNM has a School of Medicine that ranked in the top 50 primary care oriented medical schools within the United States. Trinity Southwest University, the University of St. Francis College of Nursing and Allied Health Department of Physician Assistant Studies as well as the National American University are all situated here as well.
