 Forklift Attachments Midland - The city of Midland is the county seat of Midland County with a small portion of the city reaching into Martin County. It is situated on the Southern Plains and presently has a population of roughly 111,146. It is the main city of the Midland Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of July 1 2009, The Odessa-Midland, Texas Combined Statistical Area had a population of approximately 266,941. The people of Midland refer to themselves as Midlanders.
In the year 1881, Midland was founded as a settlement near the middle along the Pacific Railroad between El Paso and Fort Worth. Midway was the initial name of the city, but was later changed due to another Texas city having the same name. The city of Midland is George W. Bush, the former president's childhood home and the hometown of the former First Lady Laura Bush.
The city was originally a ranching and farming community. Nonetheless, the city's economy underwent a massive changed during the year 1923, when oil was discovered within the Permian Basin.
There are several attractions located near or within the city of Midland, like for example the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, Midland County Museum, Museum of the Southwest Complex, Big Spring State Park as well as the Confederate Air Force and American Airpower Heritage Museum.
Located within the city limits are numerous amazing parks, like for instance: Tolbert Park, Trinity Park, CJ Kelly Park, Doug Russell Park, Fasken Park, and Halff Park. Also, there are several interesting museums with a detailed explanation of the history of the area, such as the Midland County Historical Museum and the Museum of the Southwest. There is also the American Airpower Heritage Museum, that houses more than 50,000 artifacts from World War II. World class shopping is available at The Midland Park Shopping Centre.
Situated within Midland is the management and administrative head office for the oil and gas industry of the Permian Basin, which is the largest oil producing area within Texas. The country's energy industry is mainly influenced by the Permian Basin.
There are several gas and oil related companies within the city of Midland, including finance, legal, data processing, accounting, engineering, and marketing. The economy is also supplemented by agriculture and ranching industries.
There are several occupations in Midland that require a university or college degree, such as registered nurses, wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives, geoscientists, petroleum engineers, financial mangers, financial analysts, family, school and child social workers, and engineering managers. The largest employers within Midland are involved in mining, healthcare, educational services, food and accommodation services, professional, and technical and scientific services.
