 Forklift Attachments Tulsa - The city of Tulsa, Oklahoma is the second biggest city in the state with practically 400,000 residents. It is also the 46 biggest city within the United States according to the latest census. Tulsa is the main municipality within the larger Tulsa Metropolitan Area, which is a region with almost 1 million in the metropolitan statistical area. The CSA of Tulsa is projected to reach one million between the years 2010 to 2012. The city of Tulsa serves as the county seat of Tulsa County, the most populous county in Oklahoma, and extends into Wagoner, Osage and Rogers counties.
The region was first settled between 1828 and 1836, after an attack by the Lochapoka Band of Creek Native American tribe. It was also the site of the well-known Tulsa Race Riot during the year 1921. This riot was and is still considered amongst the largest and most devastating race riots in the countries history. For most of the 20th century, the city of Tulsa was called the "Oil Capital of the World" and played a major part as one of the most vital centers for the oil industry in the United States. The city of Tulsa, along with some other cities, claims to be the birthplace of U.S. Route 66 and is also famous for its Western Swing music.
The Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa features a great compilation of American art from the colonial times to the present. There is an emphasis on art from the west. The collection housed here was once owned by Tulsa oil magnate Thomas Gilcrease, but was later purchased by the city of Tulsa in the year 1955. Included in the art is about 10,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints by 400 artists. Of Frederic Remington's 22 bronzes, 18 could be seen here. Other museums and cultural attractions within the city of Tulsa comprise the Philbrook Museum of Art, the Tulsa Air and Space Center and the Fenster Museum of Jewish Art. Tulsa is home to the Oklahoma Aquarium and the Tulsa Zoo. Mayfest is a 4-day outdoor music and arts festival which draws 250,000 people each and every year.
Even though the oil business has historically dominated Tulsa's economy, efforts in economic diversification have created a base in the sectors of aerospace, finance, technology, telecommunications, manufacturing and high tech. The Tulsa International Airport (TUL) as well as the Tulsa Port of Catoosa, the most inland seaport within the country, connect the area with global trade and transportation. An American Airlines maintenance base at Tulsa International Airport is the biggest employer of Tulsa and the largest maintenance facility within the world, serving as the airline's global engineering and maintenance headquarters, whilst the Tulsa Port of Catoosa and the Tulsa International Airport house extensive industrial parks.
Within Tulsa, there are company head office for several big financial corporations such as the BOK Financial Corporation. Other companies call Tulsa home, including QuikTrip, a semi-national convenience store chain, Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, the international car rental company, Hilti, and Mazzio's semi-national pizza chain. A lot of global companies associated to gas and oil have head office in Tulsa, such as SemGroup, Williams Companies, ONEOK, Syntroleum, Excel Energy and Samson. At present, there are 30 businesses in Tulsa that employ more than 1,000 individuals, though small businesses make up over 80% of Tulsa's companies.
