 Forklift Attachments Shreveport - The city of Shreveport, Louisiana serves as the seat of Caddo Parish though part of the city boundaries stretch into Bossier Parish. It is the third biggest city and part of the 4th largest metropolitan area within Louisiana: the Shreveport-Bossier City Metropolitan Area with a population of nearly 400,000. Shreveport is located along the Red River across from the city of Bossier on the other side. The two cities are referred to as "Shreveport-Bossier."
Within the region of Shreveport, the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas converge on a region referred to as "Ark-La-Tex".
The township was officially settled by the Shreve Town Company which established the township at the point of the Red River and the Texas Trail in 1836. The Texas Trail was established by travelers as an overland route to Mexico and then later to Texas. The newly-formed community was called Shreve Town in honour of Captain Henry Miller Shreve. The Captain was like a hero after leading US Army Corps of Engineer efforts to get rid of a long stretch of debris clogging the river.
The township of Shreveport was incorporated in 1839, and during the year 1871 it officially became a city. The city of Shreveport played an important role in the national oil business during part of the 20th century. When the oil business faltered in the 1980s, the economy of the city declined due to layoffs, company closures and cutbacks. The city then focused its efforts on the service sector by developing riverboat casinos and preserving its historic landmarks. Nowadays, it is considered a popular tourist destination.
The change to a service economy encouraged a boom in the gaming business. The famous riverboat gambling casinos provide an important source of revenue and employment for the region. Casinos in Shreveport-Bossier comprise Sam's Town Casino, Eldorado Casino, Boomtown casino, Diamond Jacks Casino and Horseshoe Casino. Shreveport was the 2nd most visited city in the state of Louisiana following the city of New Orleans (prior to Hurricane Katrina). The area is also famous for horse racing. Harrah's Louisiana Downs, a major racetrack, is located within nearby city of Bossier. The region of Shreveport-Bossier is a commercial and cultural center. It supports a large shopping and entertainment complex referred to as the "Louisiana Boardwalk" that is situated across the river within Bossier City. The Boardwalk is a 51,000 mē facility with restaurants, outlet shopping, bowling complex and movie theater.
