 Forklift Attachments Flagstaff - The city of Flagstaff, Arizona is situated within the northern area of Arizona State located on the western side of countries biggest contiguous Ponderosa Pine forest. It lies near Colorado Plateau's southwestern edge. The population of Flagstaff was roughly 60,611 in 2009 and based on statistics for the year 2010, the MSA was recorded with approximately 175,871 inhabitants.
Flagstaff is named after the Ponderosa Pine flagpole which was made by a scouting party from the city of Boston who was called the "Second Boston Party." This was made on the 4th of July, 1876, to celebrate the United States Centennial. Flagstaff is the county seat of Coconino County.
The city of Flagstaff is found just south of the San Francisco Peaks, nearby Mount Elden. This is the highest mountain range within the Arizona state. In Kachina Peaks Wilderness, Humphreys Peak is situated, roughly 10 miles or 16 kilometers north of Flagstaff, and it forms the highest point in the state of Arizona at 3850 meters or 12,633 feet.
The city's economy is was initially based on ranching, lumber, and the railroad. Currently, the city of Flagstaff has many major distribution centers for the businesses Walgreens, Purina PetCare and Nestle. Flagstaff is also home to the United States Naval Observatory, Lowell Observatory and the Norther Arizona University as well as the USA Geological Survey Flagstaff Station. There is a strong focus on tourism in the city due to its close proximity to the Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona Snowbowl, the Grand Canyon National Park, Meteror Crater and the famous Route 66. Flagstaff is home to W.L. Gore and Associates, who is part of the medical device manufacturing sector.
Some of the largest employers in Flagstaff consist of the Northern Arizona University, the Flagstaff Unified School District and the Flagstaff Medical Center. Transportation, education and government and tourism have mostly replaced the ranching, railroad and lumber industries. More than 5 million visitors go through Flagstaff on a yearly basis as well. There are a variety of hotel and restaurant chains that are rather successful in the region because of all of the tourism which the Grand Canyon generated. There are 2 historic hotels situated within the downtown area: the Hotel Monte Vista and the Weatherford Hotel.
Among the famous high tech scientific research and development operations within the city include the United States Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station, called NOFS, the Lowell Observatory, the USGS or United States Geographical Survey's Flagstaff Campus and Northern Arizona University. Lowell Observatory is a popular visitor's center as well as an active astronomical observatory. They host educational displays and tours. They provide a distributed network of small telescopes that simultaneously, provide images of celestial bodies with a lot higher resolutions than produced by any other single telescope. Some of the existing research is involved in observations of near-Earth phenomena including comets and asteroids.
