 Forklift Attachments New Jersey - New Jersey is a state within the Middle Atlantic and Northeastern parts of the United States. According to the United States 2010 Census, its population was 8,791,894. It is bordered on the east and north by the state of New York, on the south and southeast by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Pennsylvania and on the southwest by the state of Delaware. The state of New Jersey lies mostly in the sprawling metropolitan areas of New York City and Philadelphia and is the most heavily populated state in the United States. It is also the 3rd wealthiest by 2009-2010 median household income.
For over 2,800 years, Native Americans have colonized the area, like for instance the Lenape tribes who lived along the shore. The Dutch and the Swedes made the first European settlements in the area, during the early 17th century. The British later seized control of the area, naming it the Province of New Jersey. It was granted as a colony to John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton and Sir Goerge Carteret. At this time, it was named after the biggest of the British Channel Islands, Jersey, where Carteret had been born. The state of New Jersey was the site of some decisive battles in the American Revolutionary War.
In the 19th century, factories within cities like for instance Trenton, Elizabeth and Paterson helped to drive the Industrial Revolution. The state's position at the center of the Northeast megalopolis, between Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, Baltimore, and Washington D.C., fueled its fast growth through the suburban boom of the 1950s and beyond.
The area which is now New Jersey, was originally settled by Native Americans tribes, as the Lenni-Lenape people dominating the area at the time Europeans arrived. The Lenape were groups of loosely organized peoples who practiced a mobile hunter-gatherer society and minor agricultural productions in the areas around the lower Hudson River, the western Long Island Sound and the Delaware River. The Lenape society was divided into matrilinear clans that were based upon common female ancestors. These clans were organized into three distinct phratries identified by their animal sign: Turkey, Wolf and Turtle. They first encountered the Dutch during the early 17th century, and their primary relationship along with the Europeans was through fur trade.
The economy of New Jersey is centered on the pharmaceutical industry, the financial business, chemical development, telecommunications, food processing, electric equipment, printing and publishing, and tourism. New Jersey's agricultural outputs are horses, nursery stock, vegetables, fruits and nuts, dairy products and seafood. The state of New Jersey ranks third in cranberries and spinach, fourth in peaches, head lettuce and bell peppers and second amongst states in production of blueberry.
New Jersey has a strong scientific economy. The state of New jersey is home to major pharmaceutical firms like for example Sanofi-Aventis, Johnson and Johnson, Novartis, Pfizer, Merck, Wyeth, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Schering-Plough and Hoffman-LaRoche. The state of New Jersey is home to major telecommunications businesses such as Avaya, Verizon Wireless, AT&T Communications and Alcatel-Lucent. Moreover, New Jersey draws upon its well-educated and large labor pool which also supports the myriad of companies which exist these days.
