 Forklift Attachments Westminster - The city of Westminster, Colorado is situated within Adams County and Jefferson County. It is considered a Denver suburb as it is just 9 miles south-southwest of the city of Denver. As of the 1st of April, 2010, the population is estimated to be 106,114, making it the 7th most populous city in Colorado and the nation's 237th most populated city. Westminster is a member of the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Denver-Aurora-Boulder Combined Statistical Area. Money magazine ranked the city as the 24th best place to reside in the US in July, 2006.
It was after the discovery of gold on Little Dry Creek during the year 1858 that folks began to settle in the region of Westminster. Four years later during the year 1862, the newly created Homestead Act helped bring in more eastern settlers that helped to strengthen the small community. Pleasant DeSpain was the first permanent settler within the city of Westminster. He constructed his very own house on 160 acres of farmland during the year 1870. As time wore on, the area became called DeSpain Junction. Soon after DeSpain built his house, other settlers started to follow suit. One of the most prominent was Edward Bruce Bowles, who was a horse breeder. His big brick home still exists today and is being utilized as a local Museum. C.J. Harris was another early settler. He originated from the state of Connecticut and was a prominent real estate developer. The city was inspired to change it's name to Harris and, during 1911, Westminster City was incorporated. Nonetheless, when the city of Westminster was incorporated it went through another name change to Westminster, in honor of the local Westminster University.
Westminster prides itself on providing numerous artistic, recreational and historic activities. The Bowles House Museum provides a unique opportunity to turn back the clock and experience how life was. It is situated in a farmhouse constructed between the years 1871 to 1876. Individuals who are interested in insects and butterflies will be drawn to the city's Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center. There are interactive displays that offer insight into science, conservations and invertebrates. There is an absolutely breathtaking indoor tropical rainforest that is home to over 1,200 live butterflies. To see a beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains, climb up the 181 stairs at Westminster's City Hall to the bell tower. Another famous spot is the Westminster Promenade, which is an outdoor area which consists of some entertainment venues and shops. There are some play areas meant for kids, as well as various trails, restaurants and cafes.
In the city of Westminster, there are several nature trails and a big open space system. The Big Dry Creek Trail is part of the open space system stretching from Standley Lake to the eastern boundary of Westminster, a span of over 10 miles. There are numerous other trails situated along the Farmers' High Line Canal, Walnut Creek, and Little Dry Creek. Land has been preserved by the city in the Westminster Hills area, the Standley Lake region, as well as some other areas that have historic meaning to Westminster. Several facilities, such as Westminster City Park and the City Park Recreation center, offer exciting recreational activities for the people of Westminster. There are two stunning golf courses in the city of Westminster: the Legacy Ridge Golf Course and the Heritage Golf Course at Westmoor.
