 Forklift Attachments Athens - Athens-Clarke County is a consolidated city-county situated in Georgia State. Athens is situated within the northeastern portion of the state. It consists of the former City of Athens proper, that is the county seat and Clarke County as well.
The University of Georgia is within this college town and truly responsible for the first growth of Athens. During 1991, after a successful vote the year prior, the original city abandoned its charter and decided to form a unified government together with neighboring Clarke County. The new region was referred to collectively as Athens-Clarke County. Based on the 2010 Census, the consolidated city county had a total population of 115,452. This combined population comprised all of Athens-Clarke County less a portion of Winterville and Bogart.
Initially, Athens was no more than a trading settlement on the banks of Oconee River. During the late seventeen hundreds the region was referred to as Cedar Shoals. On the 27th of January, 1785, the Georgia General Assembly chartered the University of Georgia as the first chartered state-supported university. Abraham Baldwin drafted the charter which existed solely on paper for 16 years.
In the summer of 1801, a delegation of 5 men: Hugh Lawson, John Milledge, John Twiggs, George Walton and Baldwin traveled to was known as Jackson County to pick a location for the future university and likewise secure a contract for its construction. Unanimously, the delegation agreed on the property location on the hill above Cedar Shoals and the Oconee River. On July 25, the year 1801, Milledge bought six hundred thirty three acres from Daniel Easley and after that donated it to the university. The land was named Athens to honor the Greek city which was the center of learning and culture during ancient times.
The Athens-Clarke County is spread out over approximately one hundred twenty five square miles, that is the smallest area among the one hundred fifty nine counties in the state of Georgia. One of the highest points within Athens is designated by City Hall within the downtown core. It is situated roughly 761 feet above sea level. Athens-Clarke County was the 25th county established within the state. It is roughly sixty five miles northeast of the city of Atlanta.
There is a diverse economy in the region that consists of several sectors such as poultry processing, healthcare, tourism timber and education. Other significant factors for the economy comprise the production of objects like textiles, electrical parts, apparel, transportation equipment, and industrial machines. Also, Athens is considered to be the major center for trade within the Northeast Georgia area.
In Athens, there are some professions, jobs that are a lot more common than in other areas of the United States. For example, bio-technology technicians, coil winders, tapers, finishers, off-beaters and machine feeders, veterinary technologists and technicians, metal fabricators and surgical technologists are amongst the most popular occupations.
