 Forklift Attachments Washington - Washington State is situated within the Pacific Northwest Region of the United States. The state was named in honor of George Washington, the very first president of the United States. Washington State should not be confused with the country's capital, Washington, that is commonly known as "D.C." or "Washington D.C."
Washington State is bordered to the north by the Canadian Province of British Columbia. Oregon State borders the state of Washington towards the south, while Idaho State lies to the west.
During 1846, the original Washington Territory was ceded by the British. It wasn't until 1889, that the state became admitted to the Union as the 42nd state. The present population of Washington State is 6,724,540, with most people concentrated within the Seattle metropolitan area.
The city of Seattle is situated along the Puget Sound of the Salish Sea, an inlet consisting of islands, lakes and fjords. The city is the center of industry, transportation and business. The ports of Puget Sound allow considerable amounts of trade together with Asia. The geography of Washington State varies from rain forests to mountains to semi-arid desert. A lot of the latter region is under agricultural cultivation.
The state of Washington produces lots of agricultural products and is a leading producer of hops, red raspberries, wrinkled seed peas, apples, spearmint oil, sweet cherries, pears, peppermint oil, Concord grapes, Niagara grapes and carrots for processing. Other important agricultural products include lentils, fall potatoes, dry edible peas, apricots, asparagus, sweet corn and green peas for processing. Of particular importance is the apple business. The state of Washington has led the country in apple production since the 1920s thanks to the dry, warm summers and cold winters of the central region, which includes the Yakima region and the Wenatchee-Okanagan region.
Washington's total gross state product in the year 2007 was $311.5 billion, making it 14th within the nation. The state of Washington is home of aircraft manufacturer Boeing. various important businesses consist of automotive, computer software development, telecom, electronics, biotechnology, aluminum production, mining, wood and lumber products, beverages, real estate, retail and tourism. Major companies operating or based there are Starbucks, Paccar, Bungie, Microsoft, Amazon.com, Nintendo of America, Valve Corporation, Nordstrom,Weyerhaeuser and T-mobile USA. The state is also a producer of hydroelectric power.
