 Forklift Attachments Winston-Salem - The city of Winston-Salem is located in the state of North Carolina within the economic region, Piedmont Triad that likewise includes the cities of High Point and Greensboro. Winston-Salem serves as the seat of Forsyth County. The city of Winston-Salem is situated 100 miles west of Raleigh, the capital of the state, and roughly 80 miles northeast of Charlotte. Winston-Salem is serviced by U.S. Routes 421 and 52, Interstate I-40 and State Highway 8.
The town of Salem was founded during the year 1766, first serving as a congregational site for the Moravian church. The town quickly grew into a center for entrepreneurial activity and trading. The adjacent Winston town was founded during 1849 and named in tribute to Joseph Winston, a local Revolutionary War hero. Both Winston and Salem became prominent centers within the newly created Forsyth County, with booming enterprises within the furniture, textile and tobacco markets. By the late 1850s, the two towns were connected to form Winston-Salem. One of the globe's biggest tobacco companies, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, opened within the city of Winston-Salem in 1874. Ever since that time, the Reynolds family has played a significant part in the city's development. In the early twentieth century, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts began its very first store in Winston-Salem and Piedmont Airlines established head office there.
Medical research is currently a prominent trade in the city of Winston-Salem. The city's largest business is Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Other company head offices situated within Winston-Salem City consist of Branch banking and Trust Company, TW Garner Food Company, Reynolda manufacturing Solutions, Hanes Brands Inc., ISP Sports, Lowes Foods Stores and Southern Community Bank. The city is part of the Piedmont Triad Research Park where a lot of biomedical and information technology research and development facilities are situated. Winston-Salem has several post-secondary institutions, including Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University and Salem College.
During 1949, the city of Winston-Salem was able to establish the country's first local arts council. Hence, together with the number of art-related attractions, Winston-Salem City has been known as the "City of the Arts." The city is home to Winston-Salem Alliance, Twin City Stage, the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Piedmont Opera Theater, the University of North Carolina School of Arts, the Stevens Center for the Performing Arts and the Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts. Art lovers can visit many galleries in the art district of the city at Trade and Sixth streets. Each year, thousands of tourists visit for the many outstanding film and performance festivals, like the heavy rebel Weekender Music Festival, the national Black Theater Festival, the Reynolda Film festival, the RiverRun International Film Festival and the Revolve Film and Music festival. The city's music scene is enlivened by its various music traditions and the presence of Carolina Music Ways, a grassroots arts organization. The Werehouse is the best place to check out the 'Indie' music and art scenes.
