 Forklift Attachments Flint - Flint is a city within Michigan State. It is situated 66 miles or 106 km northwest of Detroit. The U.S. Census Bureau recorded the population in the year 2010 to be 102,434, making Flint the seventh biggest city in the state of Michigan. Flint serves as the county seat of Genesee County. This occupies the Flint/Tri-Cities region of Michigan. Moreover, Genesee County is the entirety of Flint's metropolitan area and is the 4th biggest metropolitan region in Michigan state. During 2010 the population of the region was about 425,800.
The city of Flint was founded in the year 1819, by Jacob Smith, a prominent Detroit fur trader. The location was a perfect location for a stopover on the overland route between Detroit and Saginaw. It grew quickly into a small sized village. The settlement became incorporated as Flint during 1855. The name was chosen from the river running through the area. Flint established itself as a lumber center during the latter half of the 19th century. As the century drew to a close the city of Flint was able to leverage its lumbering infrastructure into a growing carriage-manufacturing business. The city of Flint soon became called "Vehicle City," since it became the largest carriage-making center within the world. Flint was in the forefront of the new auto business when horse-drawn carriages gave way to the advent of automobiles.
In the year 1908, General Motors Corporation was founded within the city of Flint by William C. Durant. The manufacturing and automobile assembly quickly grew into a major business. The city of Flint has remained closely tied to the automobile industry throughout the 20th century. The city of Flint has ridden the wave of the industry's times of difficulties and prosperity which have occurred.
