 Forklift Attachments Fort Collins - Fort Collins is a city situated on the Cache La Poudre River within Colorado state. This Home Rule City is located along the Colorado Front Range. It is the county seat of Larimer County as well as being the most heavily populated city of the county too. The 2010 census listed the populations as approximately 143,900 making it the 4th most heavily populated city in Colorado. Fort Collins is situated 57 miles or 92 kms north of Denver, the state capital of Colorado.
The city is 55 miles northeast of Boulder, Colorado. The city of Fort Collins is nestled along the Rocky Mountain foothills. Colorado State University or CSU, is located within Fort Collins also, therefore it is a largely populated college town.
At first, the city started out as an army post like its name suggests. In the beginning it was called "Camp Collins," in honor of the commander of Ohio Cavalry troops who were based at Fort Laramie under Lt. Col. William O. Collins. In the year 1864, a devastating flood almost destroyed the first army post. The existing site of the city of Fort Collins was picked to be the site of the new military operation. The new post was named Fort Collins. In 1867, the fort was decommissioned but a new township still emerged. During the year 1873, the new township of Fort Collins was officially incorporated.
Six years later, another significant milestone was achieved with the opening of the Colorado Agricultural College. This would eventually become Colorado State University. Originally founded as Colorado's only land grant institution, CSU has become a major part of the city's culture and recreation as well as being the largest employer within Fort Collins.
There is a balanced economy in the city of Fort Collins along with a really educated workforce. The manufacturing base consists of businesses such as Water Pik, Hewlett Packard, Anheuser-Busch and Woodward. The research facilities and resources at CSU have attracted several hi-tech businesses to the region.
